The
Varsity Club orchestra, led by Jack Reilly on alto saxophone, was active
in New York City from 1937- 1942 and 1945-1947. The orchestra performed
throughout the New York and Long Island area, playing venues at the
Waldorf-Astoria, the Carmelite Collegiate Club, Vasa Ballroom and the
Park Avenue Vanderbilt Hotel among many others. In late 1942 Reilly
was drafted into World War
II and the orchestra disbanded. After returning from the War in 1945,
Reilly and
remaining band members reunited the band and performed through 1947. |
